How to buy a Kindle Fire in Canada

January 8th, 2012 · Filed Under Kindle · Comment

As you may know, Amazon released their latest version of the Kindle, called the Kindle Fire, a few months ago. Many people from Canada are wondering how can they buy a Kindle Fire in Canada. Unfortunately I have to tell you that you can’t. Unlike other kindle models, where you could have them shipped to the US and then sent to you, you can’t do that in Canada with the Kindle Fire.

The reason is simple: if you take a look at the Amazon.com website and compare it with Amazon.ca one, you will notice the extreme lack of content in the Canadian edition of the store. We don’t have their MP3 store, the digital software downloads, or even the Amazon Prime movie streaming services. Without these services being available in Canada, the Kindle Fire isn’t nearly as compelling as it could be. Most of the keynote dedicated to the Kindle Fire went on to talk about how great the Kindle Fire will be because of its deep integration with these services.

So a Kindle Fire in Canada would be an expensive gadget that can’t take advantage of all the features it should offer. It is a waste of money if you ask me. The best thing would be to get any other model, which work perfectly in Canada.

The most recent Kindle model you can use in Canada is the Kindle Touch. Keep in mind, though, that this one CAN NOT BE SHIPPED TO CANADA. You’ll need a relative or a friend that lives in the US so you can send it there, and then have them send it over to you in Canada. You will, however, be able to use all the features this model offers.

Here is a brief listing of the main features each Kindle in Canada. Remember that these can be shiped to Canada, except for the Kindle Touch. Feel free to click on any specific image or link and you will be taken to the product’s page at Amazon, where you can read all about it and place an order. Keep in mind that Kindles are the most popular items at Amazon and they are selling fast. If you want one, get it now; who knows when they might get sold out, and last time this happened it took several months for Amazon to get them in stock again!

If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments section :)

Got some very good news for you! Amazon now ships the Kindle book reader to Canada! If you are wondering how or where to buy a Kindle Canada read along

All you have to do is go to the Kindle page here and add it to your shopping cart. You can pay with your Canadian credit card and have it sent to your Canadian address.

Bear in mind that there is a small, limited amount of Kindles available right now and they are flying off the shelves. If you are thinking of buying one better hurry up before they run out of stock or you will have to wait several weeks for them to be available again

This means that if you try to buy it at the Canadian Amazon website you will not find it there.  You will probably have to create a new account in order to buy from this international store (quick and painless process, takes a couple of minutes).
  • The Kindle is a delicate gadget and it does not include a cover. I strongly suggest you add a cover when placing your order. You will be presented with several options before checkout, and the Kindle leather cover is the most popular one.

Kindle Canada?

Because of copyright issues Kindles are currently available for US residents only. How do they know you are in the US? They require a US credit card account and a US billing address. This doesn’t seem fair for Amazons international customers and our neighbors in Canada.

But if you want to buy a Kindle in Canada, or another country there may be some work around. Also the Kindle is still a new device. It took the Sony reader 2 years before it was available in Canada. So I’m sure once the copyright and whispernet issues are sorted out. The kindle in Canada will be available.

After reading Amazons Kindle forums I’ve discovered. If you have a US billing and shipping address you can own a Kindle and purchase Kindle books anywhere in the world. A woman who lives in the South Pacific, said she purchased a Kindle while visiting the US. and had a friend order it with her credit card.

Then the friend de-registered it and she bought several books with another US credit card and put them on SD cards. Or you can just get a US credit card and use a friends US address and then you can download books onto your computer. Then transfer them onto the Kindle.

Another option some suggested was purchasing an Amazon gift card. Emailing it to yourself. Then putting the code number into your account. Then you could purchase the Kindle and download ebooks as long as your gift card balance was large enough.

If someone wants a Kindle in Canada badly enough they will find a way to get one. Although one of the nice things about the Kindle is the downloads on the fly. It’s unfortunate that they are not available in other countries yet. But hopefully that will change soon.

UPDATE!

I received an interesting comment from a nice Canadian visitor of this blog. She told me that she managed to buy a Kindle from her home in Canada… using a Canadian credit card!

So… how did she do it? Well, unfortunately you still need to have an address in the US to have the Kindle shipped to. Amazon will not send it to any place outside the USA. Just find someone who can receive it for you: a relative, a friend, a friend’s friend… you get the idea. As long as you have a place in the USA to have the Kindle sent to you are one step ahead.

First of all, on your computer’s keyboard hold down the ctrl and the D keys together to bookmark this page. . That way you can save it and visit it again it when you have found someone that can help you out.

Now what you need to do is call the bank which issued your credit card and ask them to set up an alternate address for it. Of course, this alternate address will be the one you are borrowing in the US. I do not know which credit cards can use an alternate address, if yours does please let us know.

Now that you have your alternate address setup, go to Amazon:

Click here to go to the Kindle 2 page

Click here to go to the Kindle DX page

Place your order, and type in your credit card number, but give your alternate address… and voila! You have used you Canadian credit card to buy a Kindle!

The comment section is open, please feel free to post your experience and let me and everyone else that reads this blog know if this worked for you! I’d love to hear some success stories :)

You can publish via a easy text input box, read your Twitter stream, and verify out your replies. Kindle Canada tweets vs Nook tweets win 2 to 1

    · Filed Under Kindle · Comment

Equally Amazon and Barnes & Noble don’t report product sales figures for their respective e-readers, the Nook and Kindle. But a single business, Crimson Hexagon, has used it upon alone to formulate some opinions about the e-reader market by charting and analyzing Twitter conversations for each the Nook and Kindle, as properly as the iPad as an e-reader.

This is a single of the research you possibly have to take with a grain of salt due to the fact there are some mixed messages in the report. For starters, the title of Crimson Hexagon’s weblog publish for the examine is, “Nook emerges as severe contender in the e-book reader universe,” followed by the subheadline, “On-line opinion indicates new colour Nook blooms late but vibrant for Barnes & Noble.”

However, the publish goes on to say that, “While the Nook readers have undoubtedly established a stable and rising position in the e-reader marketplace throughout 2010, our analysis also exposed that Amazon’s Kindle is even now by far the most common e-reader on the basis of total conversation volume on Twitter.”

Looking at the everyday volume of “relevant” Twitter conversation for each of the devices, Crimson Hexagon discovered that conversation about the Kindle far outpaces the Nook and Nook Shade, “consistently adding up to more tweets-per-day than the two Nook gadgets mixed (an common of about 1,000 tweets per day for Kindle vs. just underneath 500 per day for Nook).” Conversation volume for the iPad as an e-reader was significantly reduced at 120 per day.

I think the essential word here is “relevant” and how it was narrowly defined in the study. According to Crimson Hexagon, it appears to entail “client satisfaction” or the “drivers of customer satisfaction” due to the fact one,000 tweets about the Kindle and 500 about the Nook on a everyday basis appears awfully very low.

Anyway, right here are a handful of highlights from the study:

Sentiment was predominantly positive for every single system except the iPad (the Kindle, Nook, and Nook Colour all had close to 80 % complete good conversation).
The iPad obtained much less favorable sentiment as an e-reader due to the fact of its glossy LCD and significant dimension.
Perception of the Kindle has remained relatively steady as nicely, with a slight enhance in conversation about affordability from 11 percent to 14 percent (each the Nook and Kindle had value reductions this previous summer time).
Equally the regular Nook (e-ink) and Nook Color came out on top rated in terms of percentage of total optimistic sentiment.
Twitter conversation indicated that assistance for library loans–a function lacking from the Kindle–is a considerable driver of satisfaction with the regular Nook. “As a end result, budget-conscious buyers may possibly opt for the Nook over the Kindle in purchase to ‘borrow’ e-books from their regional library at no cost.”
Despite the Nook Color’s cost tag of $249, Twitter end users largely perceive the gadget as cost-effective; 14 percent of appropriate conversation involved optimistic perception of value, which would seem to reflect the Nook Color’s positioning as a reduced-charge, “pseudo tablet.”

Though the examine is sort of exciting to select through, none of this information is terribly earth-shattering, and we want Crimson Hexagon had also appeared at overall tweets for all e-readers, not just individuals pertaining to buyer satisfaction.

Kindle and Nook eReader Internet Connections

    · Filed Under Kindle · Comment

Prior to you get an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes and Noble Nook, discover about distinct ereader functions. How ereaders connect to the web affects pricing.

There are two various methods to connect to the net with an ereader. Some ereaders use wi-fi connections only, and some ereaders can use 3G or wi-fi connections. You do not want to connect to the world wide web to examine ebooks on an ereader, but it is less difficult to download books straight from the gadget about the world wide web than to transfer ebooks by way of a USB cord.

The Amazon Kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook have wi-fi designs and 3G+wi-fi models. These phrases point out how ereaders connect to the world wide web to obtain books. Since the various internet connection alternatives have an effect on the value of the ereader and the battery overall performance of the system, select the correct web connection attribute for your requirements.

    What is a Wi-Fi Connection?

A wi-fi enabled ereader can connect to the internet via a wireless network. If you have a wireless world wide web connection in your property, you can permit your ereader to join your wireless network and use your by now current internet program to obtain books. You can also connect to totally free wi-fi connections that are usually provided in coffee retailers and libraries. Barnes and Noble has a wi-fi network that the Nook will immediately connect to when Nook people provide their ereaders into a Barnes and Noble shop.

A wi-fi connection’s pace depends on the pace of the wireless network. If your home web connection is quickly, the ereader wi-fi connection will also be quick. If your residence web connection has issues staying related, the wi-fi connection for the ereader will be equally unstable. If you have a quickly, trustworthy wireless network in the locations you program to use your ereader, a wi-fi ereader will be a excellent option. The wi-fi types of ereaders cost less than the 3G+wi-fi models, and the battery tends to final longer among charges when you are using a wi-fi connection rather of a 3G connection.
    What is a 3G Connection?

A 3G web connection indicates that the ereader is transferring info more than a network developed for mobile gadgets, which is why 3G is generally a term employed when speaking about cell phones. While you want to get a information program to use a cellphone or an iPad 3G, you do not want to purchase a information strategy or subscription to use a Kindle 3G+wi-fi or a Nook 3G+wi-fi. Amazon and Barnes and Noble supply the wireless 3G service as common characteristics of their 3G units.

The 3G+wi-fi indicates that the ereader can entry both a 3G mobile network or a wi-fi wireless network. If you are in an location in which there is not a wi-fi connection, you can still obtain books by means of the 3G network if it is available. The Kindle 3 and the Nook use the AT&T 3G network, so you can see if the network is obtainable in your place by checking the AT&T 3G network protection map.

If you do not have a dependable wi-fi connection for your ereader, you will want to devote the additional cash to get a 3G+wi-fi ereader. Amazon’s Kindle User’s Information (5th Version) notes that “a weak signal can enhance energy consumption,” so making use of a 3G internet connection may possibly indicate that you have to cost your ereader more often. Of course, you can constantly turn off the web connection when you are not utilizing it and that will extend the amount of time you have in between battery expenses.
Employing an eReader Outdoors of the United States

The Amazon Kindle 3G+wi-fi will function in numerous international locations. Amazon.com has a 3G protection map that exhibits various spots exactly where the Kindle 3G will connect to the web. Barnes and Noble’s Nook Connectivity Data page says that even though the wi-fi may function internationally, the Nook “cannot connect to any international mobile info networks.”

If you journey or go through in places that do not have wi-fi networks, you need to consider getting a 3G ereader. The Kindle and the Nook are well-liked 3G+wi-fi ereaders. If you will be going to Canada, Mexico, or the United Kingdom, the Amazon Kindle three will connect about the obtainable international networks, but the Barnes and Noble Nook will not.

Kindle Canada ready for the year 2011

3 years later, the on-line retail juggernaut has offered far more than 7 million Kindle gadgets, in accordance to estimates by Cowen and Co. That signifies roughly 1 in ten folks who shop on Amazon’s Net store have obtained a Kindle. This 12 months, product sales of Kindle products and books are projected to hit almost $2 billion, up 342 percent from 2009, according to Cowen.

When it arrives to digital books, Amazon lives up to its name, controlling 76 % of the U.S. market place.

But you don’t get to personal 3-quarters of the market with out producing some waves. Amazon’s choice to adopt a technical format that prevents readers from simply transferring digital books purchased elsewhere onto the Kindle has irked rivals.

Until this yr, Amazon insisted that all new releases offered at its retailer be priced at $9.99 or much less. This infuriated a amount of established publishers, who feared that digital gross sales would undercut the profitable hardcover marketplace.

And its promise in October to give authors who self-publish via its Kindle retailer a 70 % royalty price, far higher than the 25 % in a standard publishing contract, spread fear and loathing all through New York’s publishing houses.

From Russ Grandinetti’s level of watch in Seattle, in which Amazon is based, it’s time to end dwelling on the previous and jump into the subsequent chapter, the a single that will deliver the guide market into the courageous new digital globe. As vice president of Kindle material, Grandinetti is in charge of getting as several books into the Kindle shop as doable (it has 750,000 books for sale)

    Kindle Canada 2010, wow

When my buddy – a laptop or computer nerd from way back again, a connoisseur of gadgets – announced that he had acquired each an Apple iPad and an Amazon Kindle, I merely attributed this to his delicate condition: The guy’s addicted to digital gadgets – he loves them, he collects the most recent and biggest, and he won’t leave property devoid of them.

But, as it turns out, my good friend is far from alone. TechCrunch, an online supply for engineering information, reports that a latest survey of one,000 iPad proprietors observed 40 % of them also personal a Kindle. One more 23 percent stated they planned to buy a Kindle in the following yr. This proves a couple of points: Tons of Americans nonetheless have lots of disposable income, and plenty of Americans have my friend’s delicate problem. But, most importantly, it suggests that the flashy iPad has not killed off the modest, functional Kindle.

In reality, Amazon’s 3rd-generation Kindle seems to be the company’s finest-marketing solution of all time, with product sales estimated around eight million in 2010.

Clearly, the iPad and Kindle are extremely distinct. The latter is a simple e-reader that you can now acquire for $139. The iPad is a complete-shade tablet, with all types of programs, that sells for $499. Because books and periodicals can simply be downloaded to the iPad, some techies believed it would capture the reader market place from Kindle.

Hasn’t took place. “My wife doesn’t get the iPad to the beach to study,” my geek pal says, “she will take the Kindle.”

The claims of the lean and light Kindle three are impressive: It can supposedly retailer 3,500 books (that’s why Amazon obtained into this company) and it offers subscriptions at reasonably priced rates to 153 everyday newspapers (like this one particular) and 74 magazines. Its battery life can be up to a month on a single charge.

1 factor I’ve observed in the previous 12 months: A lot more people communicate of owning a Kindle issue-of-factly, as if they were telling you they owned a automobile. If revenue of the 3rd-generation Kindle had been as good as industry watchers say – Amazon does not release official figures – then it’s achievable 2010 could have been a breakout 12 months for this easy, reputable e-reader: It not only survived the iPad, it thrived. And Hallelujah, individuals still want to read books and periodicals.

    Make that, some folks.

At a couple of gatherings more than the holidays, I obtained into conversations with males and girls who do not go through newspapers or magazines any longer, and they appeared to be practically boastful about that. Extremely, one particular man informed me he no lengthier reads The Baltimore Sun due to the fact “there’s no sports activities in it.” Rather of arguing or trying to market the thought of studying my employer’s newspaper – in print, on the web, or on a Kindle or iPad – I just moved on to the crab dip. Some of the nicest men and women I met over the holidays have been the most uninformed and dull folks, also.

I no lengthier apologize for sounding elitist on this subject matter. And I don’t care if it sounds self-serving. Of course it’s self-serving. The entire nature of this column, suggesting the wonders of the helpful Kindle, is self-serving. From time to time – like, as soon as a year – I talk up for the newspapers that so several citizens feel they can reside devoid of. The time to do it was not on New Year’s Eve; that would have soured the crab dip. So I’m performing it here. Possibly I’m just preaching to the choir, but you by no means know who may possibly stumble onto The Sun’s net website and accidentally examine this.

    So right here goes:

If you do not examine a every day or weekly newspaper, in some type, you are not as informed as you ought to be. You are not actually engaged in the democracy. You are lacking out on a lot of the riches of our culture. And, believe in me; you’re not as good a conversationalist as you feel you are. You need much better content.

With all these extraordinary gadgets at our disposal – which includes the progressively cost-effective Kindle – accessibility to the printed phrase, from newspapers to traditional literature, has never been as straightforward and as clean (no ink on your fingers) as it is these days. So, you have no excuse for getting a uninteresting toad at a social gathering.

Right now, the most well-known manufacturers in the e-reader market place incorporate Barnes and Noble’s Nook, Amazon’s Kindle and Apple’s iPad with Samsung and iRobot slowly and gradually catching up but the initial three dominate the marketplace.

If you are interested in buying an e-reader and do not have an concept about the differences among them, then this comparison is definitely for you. Allow us appear at the a variety of competitive functions on Kindle, Nook and iPad respectively. We are going to take a distinct method in comparison based mostly upon utilization encounter:
    Appear and Experience

The appear and really feel of all the devices is distinct. The Kindle, has a button primarily based keyboard on the bottom or merely a physical keyboard. The keyboard is clunky and I have learnt from a lot of Kindle customers that they hardly use the keyboard and it will take up a lot of interface display area.

There are two versions of Nook on the market, Nook 1 and Nook two. Nook1′s style has a 3.5′ inch LCD Touch screen beneath the principal display that offers a scrollable interface with hyperlinks to the library, collections, search, see your e-books by scrolling by way of the covers but is quite small interface. On the other hand, Nook2′s screen is bigger than Kindle but iPad beats equally of them to it. Secondly iPad has a complete screen display.

Kindle’s readability of its type by means of E-Ink Technology which can make the on-display screen type crisp and easier to examine with no back-lit display that lessens eye-strain. E-guide pages can be turned swiftly with the subsequent button. The Kindle show is equal to the size of a lot of paper back books. You can also study on the Kindle in the sunlight.
Utilization Evaluation and the iBooks on iPad expertise
Kindle turns on quicker, the pages turn faster, the downloads are quicker, the syncing is quicker. The Kindle also has a lot more applications for the Computer, the MAC, the iPhone and iPad even though permitting these gadgets to also sync with the Kindle. The advantage of this feature is that if you had been studying some thing on your iPhone or MAC and you switch on your Kindle, it will know specifically where you left off reading on your earlier gadget and load the identical page on Kindle. That is fairly neat for individuals that go through a great deal!
The iBooks application for iPad will take complete benefit of its around 10 inch significant screen with complete coloration display, fast e-book and document loads enabled by virtual page modes that gives the complete feature of page curls whilst turning pages like a actual book supported by a single page and double page display. This mimics the two a single page display and a normal guide fold. iPad’s screen dimension stays twice the dimension of Kindle’s and Nook’s screens and this permits lesser page turns on the iPad and much less tension on the fingers!
iPad’s show also provides actual guide like existence to any e-e-book document with its prosperous coloration and the capacity to hold it near to you or a bit additional. iPad enables the most visually prosperous e-e-book encounter but its App shop lacks the volume of ebooks and publications that Amazon offers through its Kindle shop but this is countered by loading Amazon Kindle Application for iPad from the App Keep. This is the exact same for loading books from Barnes and Noble as nearly every single famous publisher in the business has designed a totally free iPad application producing it obtainable by means of the App Retailer.

Nook’s touchscreen is not really responsive and a single might have to tap it a couple of times to get stuff completed or just to wake it up from rest mode. Kindle is using its very own OS which is quicker in responsiveness to the Kindle. iPad on the otherhand is actually faster than each the Nook and Kindle as the gadget comes with a extremely quick processor and remarkably responsive interface.
    Supporting Guide Retailers

As all 3 gadgets interface with their producer or company’s bookstore. Barnes & Noble e-book pricing was in the beginning more costly than the Amazon Kindle Guide keep but they progressively reduced their rates to compete with Amazon. Barnes and Noble nonetheless stands the leader in possessing the largest amount of e-e-book and electronic publications providing. Though, the Amazon’s Kindle shop hosts a single fourth of what Barnes and Noble does but nevertheless it is faster to entry and browser than the e-guide via Nook on Barnes & Noble’s retailer. This is where the Kindle keyboard tends to be useful.

On the other hand, iPad tends to run content material from the two guide retailers of Kindle or Nook and then its very own App Store rising the quantity of possibilities for the person so you get to acquire from in all places for iPad.
