Hi Robert. Here is some information for you:

The Globe and Mail and the National Post have joined the list of newspapers and magazines available for purchase through the Kindle Store, with Canwest's major daily newspapers coming later. Users can buy a single copy or a subscription.

Hope you enjoy your Canada Kindle!

Yup, you can read about it here
Buy Kindle books with gift cards

And yes, you can transfer the books to your Kindle via USB but if you want to see PDF docs you need a Kindle DX, it is meant for that.

Hi all,

So from what I have read here is that if you are living in Canada and have purchased a kindle 2, you can purchase ebooks via amazon gift cards? My other question is if you didn't want to use their wireless service and just wanted to transfer PDF or other types of files using USB, is that still a good solution? Some people have mentioned on here that PDF is not supported but from the specs on Amazon, it says it can read PDF files. Can someone confirm this? Thanks.

Well, I don't quite understand why this is happening. If you have a gift card balance on your amazon kindle account, they will automatically deduct your purchase from that balance before they charge your credit card. The only thing this does not work for are newspaper or magazine subscriptions.
Are you sure you have enough balance on your gift card? Is this the first time you are trying to do this or have you made previous purchases successfully? Is this a recent error or has it always happened when you try to buy something?

Hello, I have an account registered with amazon.com, and there is a gift card applied to my account. Yet when I try to purchase a ebook (or download one that's $0.00), I get an error screen.

Amazon will ask me to select my Kindle, then choose a billing address. I've registered my amazon acc to a US address that I found on the net in the US. When I select that address, and hit continue, I get the below error. This has been happening for the last 2 days... when I spoke to Amazon about it, they were unable to assist me.... any idea's?

riptide1 at tiomat.com. Thanks!

We're sorry!

Karen: I'm not sure if you can buy Kindle 2 on Amazon.de. To tell the truth I couldn't find it. But I believe you can find a company that imports Kindles to Germany, just google it. Now about books again. It doesn't matter if you live in Germany, Canada, India etc. You still can buy Kindle books. Again all you need (I assume you don't have US credit card) is Amazon.com gift card (you can purchase it with you German cc) and US billing address that you have to add to your Amazon.com account. I'm not suggesting adding US address like "Beverly Hills 90210" (it's for educational purposes only), I'm just telling you, there's such a possibility and it works.

MUFC_Fan: You are right, we can get tons of free goodies outside Amazon.com :3 Pdfs do work on Kindle DX. I upload them on my Kindle DX with USB cable.

Thanks to Kindle DX fan, you are spot on! I merely added a US address to my existing Amazon account.

After registering the serial number of my device I was able to go to "Your Orders" on the "Manage Your Kindle" screen and download to my Mac. Plug the Kindle in with the USB cable and drop the files in the "Documents" folder. Done!

As mentioned previously, there is a TON of public domain stuff out there - just make sure that you download the supported file format and you're good to go. [ie: freekindlebooks.org]

.pdf's still aren't supported, but I've already found enough stuff to keep me reading for months.

Have fun everyone!
