How to buy Kindle ebooks using an Amazon gift card

August 19, 2009 · Filed Under ebooks, how to · Comment

Amazon gift cardBuying books for your Kindle at Amazon using a gift card is quite simple:

  1. Purchase or receive the gift card
  2. Apply it to your account

That’s it!

The next time you purchase a Kindle book the cost of the book automatically gets deducted from your gift card balance. That’s how one-click works: it deducts purchases from any available gift card before it charges your credit card. If you don’t have enough money in your gift card balance, then you’ll have to provide a credit card for the remainder. Simple little way to buy stuff, this is how many people in Canada manage to get their Kindle books.

Would you pay over $6,000 for a Kindle book?

Although it might seem a ridiculous question, it is actually true! There are several books available at the Kindle store at Amazon that cost well over $6,000 dollars. Why do they cost this much? No idea: Who on earth would buy one? No idea. But they exist and are available in case you’ve got a pile of cash to spend. For example the book called “Nuclear Energy” will set you back $6,232.00

What I do love about these books are the hilarious reviews they get:

The first couple of chapters were slow and went over the basics of nuclear energy that I learned in the 4th grade. However, by chapter 3, the pace really started to pick up and I could. not. put. it. down! The suspense was killing me!

I now have about half a reactor built in my backyard and am waiting a delivery from Home Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond to finalize the construction.

I accidently bought this when I meant to purchase the Oprah selection, The Secret….anyone want to trade?

Don’t do like me and blow your whole book buying budget is just one shot — stupid ‘Buy with One Click’ button.

I ordered this book to complete my doomsday weapon. The information is clear and well drawn-out, particularly the detail regarding the fusion of plasma energy with dark matter. My weapon was finished on schedule.

If you take the second line of every paragraph, the the first sentence, and every 13th letter of each, therein lay the recipe for Mr. Fusion!

The Amazon discount off retail gave me the financial resources to buy the family a new big screen TV.

What a deal!

I ordered this and within 3 days of light reading it disintegrated into dust. Now I have only 1/8 of my nuclear power plant built. Thanks a lot.

Get Free Ebooks On Your Kindle

I just discovered a great site for anyone who has a digital ebook reader. The site is FeedBooks and it is a universal e-reading platform that is compatible with all mobile devices. This includes the Amazon Kindle ebook reader. In fact you can even use the EVDO connection to have the books delivered directly to your kindle. The books are also free. Most of them are public domain books which is great, because you can get all of the classics and more for free. In fact here is a list of the top 20 downloads from last week. And all of these are available for free and can be uploaded to your Kindle via the EVDO service. Top Downloads 1. A Stable for Nightmares 2. The Damned Thing 3. Monsieur Lecoq 4. The Kama Sutra 5. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 6. The Art of War 7. The War of the Worlds 8. Pride and Prejudice 9. Dracula 10. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland 11. The Count of Monte Cristo 12. I, Robot 13. Moby-Dick 14. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes 15. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 16. Grimm’s Fairy Tales 17. Treasure Island 18. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 19. War and Peace 20. The Divine Comedy As you can see there are some pretty good titles in there as well. I haven’t used this service yet. But I will try to in the future and make a post about it so that the download instructions can be simplified, especially for the Kindle2. But for now you’ll have to use the guide furnished by FeedBooks.

How To Get Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan For Free On Your Kindle

January 10, 2009 · Filed Under ebooks, how to · Comment

SuzeAndOprah Thanks to Oprah and Suze Orman, teaming up for the next week, anyone can go to Oprah’s website and download Suze Orman’s latest book which is her 2009 Action Plan. When you download the book it will be in PDF format.

If you would like to convert the PDF book to put on your Kindle you have some options.

  • Option 1 Pay 10 cents and email the file to your Kindle’s e-mail address (“name”@Kindle.com) the file will be converted and delivered to your Kindle wirelessly.
  • Option 2 If you would rather not pay the 10 cents you can send the file to (“name”@free.kindle.com), the file will be converted and e-mailed back to you at the e-mail address that is associated with your Amazon account. Then you can transfer the document from your computer to the Kindle using your USB connection.
  • Option 3 Use MobiPocket Creator

One of the main complaints I’ve heard about the Kindle is not reading PDF files. As you can see the conversion process is pretty simple. So if you haven’t taken advantage of converting PDF files to Kindle files, now is the time.  And there is no better way to practice then by taking advantage of this offer by Suze and Oprah. Oh, and getting your finances in order for 2009, might not be a bad idea either.

Free Kindle Downloads From 12-9 to 2-28 2009

January 9, 2009 · Filed Under ebooks · Comment

From now until February 28th 2009 you can download the following Kindle titles for free. Compliments of Random House. I don’t know why anybody would pass up on these. Even if it’s not on your current reading list you can still have the book in your library if you ever need something new to read.

Plus there is always room for more books. The kindle’s built in memory holds hundreds of titles plus you can hold even more with an optional SD card. Plus every book you download is backed up online in your personal media library.

Besides these free downloads don’t forget that you can download the first chapter of every Kindle book for a free trial. Just to make sure that you are not purchasing anything that you are not interested in.

Also available for free download until 2-28 are The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death by Laurie Notaro and The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss. Enjoy!

I love the Commoncraft show. They take difficult concepts and break them down into easy to explain steps. Plus all of the visuals are clever handcrafted paper cutouts. They take breaking down information and creating clear visual explanations to an art form.

Well now Kindle users can enjoy the simplicity and cleverness of the Commoncraft with Commoncraft Kindle Books. If you would like to find out more about the Commoncraft or check out the information for free you can always check out their website. Enjoy!
