How to reboot your Kindle DX

Doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes your Kindle DX might just “freeze”, where the screen seems to be stuck and the buttons won’t respond. You need to reset it but it just doesn’t seem to do anything.

What to do?

Easy: Slide the power switch over and hold it for thirty seconds until it starts to reboot. 30 seconds seems like a long time, but believe me, if you don’t hold the power swith long enough your Kindle DX will simply not reboot.

The biggest differences between the DX and the K2 are:

- size of device/screen
- native PDF support vs. PDF’s needing to be converted
- rotating screen vs. standard portrait orientation

Obviously, the DX is considerably larger than the K2. Prehaps you would prefer to view/read books with a much larger screen that is virtually similar in size to a hard cover book. If so, than the DX would be for you. Text books, manuals, PDF’s and other types of similar reading material are what the DX, with its vast screen size, was truly designed for, but it can certainly be used for simple book reading. Otherwise, the K2′s screen is “approximately” the size of a mass paperback novel, and is a size that I am personally comfortable with. In addition to its larger size, the DX is a good bit heavier than the K2 as well, which may be an issue for you, as some have commented about the “awkwardness” of holding the DX when reading due to its weight, as well as its thin design, which makes it like holding a really heavy magazine.

The DX offers native PDF support, meaning you can load PDF docs straight onto the DX for viewing. With the K2, you have to have the PDF docs converted to a compatible format for viewing on the K2. It’s a simple process, but one that you might find tedious if your big on wanting to read/view PDF’s on your Kindle.

And finally, the DX has a rotating screen – for both portrait viewing and landscape viewing – better to view images/graphs/charts with, as well as better to view PDF’s, and even read books with if you prefer.

Member “lmk2045″ for example has posted this

I received my shipping confirmation this afternoon from Amazon. It is shipping from their Elizabethtown, KY warehouse and should arrive tomorrow via FedEx.

So, it seems the new batch of Kindle DX’s has arrived and is starting to roll out. Might be the perfect time to order your Kindle Dx. Although Amazon’s site still shows a waiting period of 1 to 2 weeks, many forum posters are saying that the waiting period was actually much lower
